Initiative 5 of 10

Initiative
5 of 10
Initiative is creativity, inventiveness, originality, ingenuity, imagination. Every time you respond in class, every time you choose your own research topic, every time you put together your own interpretation of a piece of literature, you take initiative. And future employers value can do professionals who come up with new ideas and chart their own courses through projects, employees who are self-reliant. Self-reliant people are self-starters who don’t procrastinate on getting the job done. They know what is required to do and do it. They don’t wait to be told many times. Succeeding in high school, college, and in the career world is taking the initiative.

Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

-Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of the United States

Persistence is what will keep you on the road to succeed your goals. No one or nothing can take your persistence; this is why it is great. When you are persistence in accomplishing something, you will accomplish it because it keeps you going it gives you the extra energy. For example in looking for a job, you must be persistence and show how much you want the job in order to get it, be determined. Persistence and determination will always get you far in the road you decide to walk.

“I think it better to do right, even If we suffer in doing so, than to incur the reproach of our consciences and posterity.”

-Robert E. Lee

It is always better to go through a little pain in choosing the right, than to suffer later on and more in choosing the wrong. There is always something that we would not like to do even if it’s the right them because we are lazy, trying to be “cool”, have no worries etc. but she should always overcome them because choosing the wrong guiding yourself through these emotions will only hurt in the long run. An example is if your teacher says you have an essay for homework, it won’t be turned in but it sure will help you. You decide not to do it because you’re lazy and want to have fun, but the day of a test or a timed essay you will suffer because you have no practice

Getting Ready for AP Tests!

Getting Ready for AP Tests!

Since the first day of stepping into my AP classes is has been the only subject talked about “AP test is going to be difficult” “we will be preparing for the AP tests”. I recognize I was not prepared for an AP course at the beginning of it all, but as time went I prepared myself and accustomed myself to all the work. Being part of an AP class means no fun until after the AP tests. I now spend my weekends completing AP assignments instead of relaxing like a regular student does. There are no breaks with being an AP student, if spring or winter break come up we all know that means tons of homework. You need to be at the top of your game to have a good grade in an AP class. On the bright side AP classes prepare me for college; they give me time to experience a bit of what college will be like. AP courses all boost of my GPA which help me be eligible for a great University. Now being only a month away from the AP exams, the pressure is on! We become nervous and, we being to have to review everything that has been taught. We also come in Saturdays to take a mock AP test, to prepare us and get us into the mindset of limited time. AP courses are bittersweet, you hate them but you know they will help you out.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work Part 1

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work
Part 1

Like many high school students, you may want --- or need—to work part time. Working takes a lot of time and energy, though, so before getting a job, make sure that you think about your ability to handle both work and education.

Important Considerations
You have to weight a number of factors when deciding whether to take on a part-time job. It’s important to get as much information as possible, so you can figure out what choice makes the most sense for you.
Schedule a meeting with your school counselor to discuss the idea of working. Talk to your counselor about why you want to work and what type of position you’re seeking.

How to Take on College Studying Part 2

How to Take on College Studying
Part 2
Choose Where to Study
Where you should study depends on two factors: the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.
*      The best places to study have good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space—usually your dorm room, your apartment or the library.
*      For completing problem sets or brainstorming possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in a setting where fellow students are available for discussion.
*      When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper, you are probably better off in a less social environment.
Improve Your Study Habits
Here are simple steps you can take to help you get a handle on studying.
*      Have a routine for where and when you study.
*      Choose reasonable and specific goals you can accomplish for each study session.
*      Do things that are harder or require more intense thought at your most productive time of the day.
*      Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking at material but not absorbing it.
*      Get to know students whom you respect and can study with or contact to ask questions.
*      Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

Student Success Statement

“Improvement begins with I.”
-Anon

There is more to this quote than what you see, the obvious. No one can improve you; it’s all a process of yourself. You are the only one who can motivate yourself to do better, to improve your life. An example can be when you want to improve to a higher position in your job; no one can make you work hard so you can accomplish your goal. If I was in that position I would have to do it on my own, I would have to overcome all the steps there is in order to improve MYSELF. I am the only one in control of my life, so if I want to improve myself , I have to take the steps necessary, no one else but me, myself , and I. It all beings with yourself.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 2

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 2

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

If teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for , they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create a personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.

“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in mind. Visualize and then realize. Start by having a target in mind; know where you are going.
One prize or goal you definitely need to establish for yourself is the prize of an honorable graduation from high school- that you will receive your diploma honestly and with integrity—that you earned it with perfect honesty.
